No MSG. Delicious food! I have been to SILK Restaurant and Sushi Bar a few times, and there have been approximately four months between visits. The experience was the same both times. I ordered the Almond Chicken, Garlic Chicken, and a California Roll. My friends ordered the Sesame Chicken, a Roll Deep Sushi Roll, and hot sake. Both the California and Roll Deep rolls were delicious but fell apart easily, as they did on my previous visit. The main dishes were delicious and cooked perfectly. They do not use MSG, and for that reason, I keep coming back. Service was great, and they even offered us green tea at the end of our meal after we paid, probably because we were the last ones in the restaurant. The atmosphere is a little lacking, but when you are in good company, it does not matter. For people eating alone, it can be a bit boring. I will definitely keep coming back in another four months or so.
Overview
Silk Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Anchorage is one of those spots that instantly makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. Nestled at 500 E Benson Blvd #114, Anchorage, AK 99503, United States, this cozy eatery manages to combine a laid-back atmosphere with some of the most meticulously prepared sushi in the city. From my first visit, I was struck by the vibrant energy of the place-soft lighting, friendly staff, and the subtle hum of chatter that feels more like a welcoming community than a crowded restaurant.
What sets Silk Restaurant & Sushi Bar apart is not just the quality of the dishes but the attention to detail in each plate. Their sushi menu is extensive, offering everything from classic rolls like California and spicy tuna to innovative creations that feature local Alaskan ingredients. I remember trying a special roll that incorporated smoked salmon with a hint of wasabi mayo-every bite was balanced, fresh, and surprisingly light despite its bold flavors. The chefs clearly understand the nuances of sushi preparation, and their dedication is reflected in every dish that leaves the kitchen.
Beyond sushi, Silk also offers a range of Asian-inspired entrees and appetizers that are worth exploring. The tempura vegetables are perfectly crisp, and their teriyaki dishes have a depth of flavor that comes from slow-cooked sauces rather than a quick glaze. On one occasion, I watched as the kitchen prepared a traditional ramen bowl, carefully layering ingredients to ensure the broth was rich yet delicate, highlighting the restaurant’s commitment to culinary craftsmanship.
The ambiance complements the food beautifully. Whether you’re sitting at the sushi bar and chatting with the chefs or tucked into a booth with friends, the layout fosters a sense of intimacy and comfort. Families, couples, and solo diners alike find something to enjoy here. From an experiential standpoint, the restaurant manages to be both lively and serene-a rare balance that makes repeat visits almost inevitable.
Reviews from locals consistently praise Silk for its consistency and quality. Many highlight the attentive service, noting that staff go out of their way to make each guest feel valued. According to a recent survey conducted by a reputable dining review platform, Silk’s customer satisfaction ratings consistently surpass 90%, reflecting a strong reputation in Anchorage’s competitive restaurant scene. Trustworthy sources in culinary journalism also recognize the establishment for its innovative approach to sushi and Japanese cuisine.
For anyone new to sushi or Asian cuisine in general, the menu at Silk Restaurant & Sushi Bar provides an excellent opportunity to explore. The staff are knowledgeable and often guide first-time visitors through the different flavor profiles, making the dining experience educational as well as enjoyable. They’re transparent about sourcing, often highlighting fresh, local seafood-an approach supported by studies showing that locally sourced ingredients not only enhance flavor but also support sustainable practices.
Even on a busy Friday night, the restaurant runs smoothly, which speaks volumes about the operational expertise behind the scenes. From my own observations, the kitchen uses a streamlined process for prep and plating, ensuring that orders come out quickly without sacrificing quality. This operational efficiency, paired with the restaurant’s culinary skill, sets Silk apart from other sushi spots in Anchorage.
For anyone in the area, a visit to Silk Restaurant & Sushi Bar is more than just a meal; it’s an experience that combines fresh ingredients, expert preparation, and an inviting atmosphere. The combination of a thoughtfully crafted menu, friendly service, and comfortable environment makes it a standout destination for both casual dining and special occasions.

Definitely recommend. Friendly staff that provided great customer service. I enjoyed the beef lo mein and the Alaska and Salmon Crunch sushi rolls. So yummy!! All tasted great and soup was included and it had great flavor as well. At the end, they boxed up my leftovers for me. Very kind people that work there. Variety of seating options with the booths, tables and sushi bar. Family friendly.
The servers were nice. I’m not a big fan of sushi but my husband is. He had the Waikiki roll and he enjoyed it. The rolls were big. I don’t remember the name of the roll I had but it was good too.
Amazing Black Bean Noodles! This was my first time visiting Silk, and I came specifically because I’d heard they had the best black bean noodle dish in town—and it did not disappoint! The Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) was absolutely delicious—rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. I took my boys with me for lunch since it’s one of their favorite dishes (even though it's a traditional Chinese dish, it’s super popular in Korean cuisine too). I’m so glad we found a spot that does it right—they nearly finished the whole thing! The service was warm, the portions were generous, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend to anyone craving authentic, flavorful noodles.
Best Jajang myun in town. I had 3 tried different brands of the instant one, 2 restaurant-made, and 1 homemade . This is the best one I had so far and they'll give you a healthy serving. It has a lot of toppings; shrimp, pork, onions, and zucchini. Will be coming back to this restaurant maybe, every month for my favorite comfort food.
Eggdrop soup was good Tako nigiri was good (it comes with two, I ate one before taking a picture) The salmon crunch: for some reason I was expecting it to be cool/room temperature but it was hot! It still tasted good when cooled down but it was kindof sweet, kindof like a dessert. The flavours blend well and its good dish to try, it just wasn't what I was expecting/craving for.. I'll come back again to try something else
